Congrats to everyone who attended the Star of the Sea Cross country meet last Monday!

The CISVA Burnaby Meet is approaching quickly.  Any Cross Country team members may attend.

The meet will begin at 10:45am and the races will continue in this order:
Gr.2 Girls beginning at 10:45am and continuing boys and girls every 15 minutes.
Intermediate and Primary “Fun Runs” will occur after the Grade 3s.

This meet has a competitive and non-competitive portion. All students will participate in 1 run minimum.  Four students have been selected to compete in the competitive run (with the option of the Fun Run, if they have enough energy to do so).  We will send home a notice next week!  All other runners will take part in the Fun Run. Cross Country Coaches have decided the 4 runners that will participate in the competitive race based on practice attendance and the last cross country race.

We have gauged the interest for soccer, volleyball and cross country for this fall by asking the children to sign up for a sport if they are interested.  It looks like we have good numbers for 1 senior boys soccer (gr 6/7) and 1 jr boys soccer (gr 5), and 1 of each gr 5, 6, and 7 girl volleyball teams.  Cross country permissions have gone home to gr 1-7 and information is posted on the school calendar.  Soccer and Volleyball permissions will go out once games have been confirmed next week.   Practice schedules will also be confirmed next week.
Next week practices will begin for the following teams...  The first practice is below (a weekly practice schedule is to follow early next week)
Cross-Country (at lunch recesses) begins next week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday!

Welcome Back Everyone! PE and Athletics reminders (ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO SIGN UP FOR THIS BLOG'S EMAILS)

Hello and welcome back,
Just thought I'd send out a hello and welcome.  Some thoughts that may help for the start of this school year;
PE list
-Proper Athletic (running) shoe (see my blog from last April)
-Building routines or responsibilities (gr 3+) for remembering the FULL Gym Strip

Extracurricular Equipment
-Soccer cleats and shin pads (gr 5, 6, 7 boys)
-Vball knee pads (gr 5, 6, 7)

The CCS Athletics Department works hard to communicate efficiently and effectively with parents each year.  Mr. Klaponski (the PE teacher and Athletics Coordinator) is responsible for updating his blog on the school calendar with up to date information about upcoming athletic events.  There you will find the PE timeline (showing all the PE times for Classes), team practice times (weekly schedule), permission slips and Term 1 games schedule (once game and event times have been finalized within our association), and other pertinent information.  He also updates all CCS athletics events, home and away games on the school calendar with google map directions.
If a game or practice is cancelled on the day of the event students will phone to make arrangements.  If the game is the next day then the athlete will be told during the day and the website will be updated.
Volunteer opportunities arise throughout the year in the Athletics Department and Mr. Klaponski’s Blog is the best place to learn what is available and how you can support us.
CCS families have always been very supportive and as the saying goes… “without you we couldn’t have such a successful program for our kids.”  So please, when you are planning to attend a practice / game / event or if you have an idea on how to help us, do let us know in advance so we can make arrangements with you and give you training if necessary.
Sincerely,
Mr. Matthew Klaponski
