2012 Permission Slips/Game Schedules have been handed out to players who have returned their B-ball Athletics Contract. Sorry if phone lists were sparse or incomplete as only contracts returned were included on the back of the permissions. Game information is also now on the school Calendar.

Make sure you inform the school of your transportation arrangements on the permission forms.  This is mandatory to join a CCS basketball team!

Please note!!!   Grade 6 girls game is moved to Jan. 19th 2012 due to the 6/7 ski trip on Feb 3.

Team list contact phone numbers

In an effort to improve communication for sporting teams this basketball season we have sent home the following request with players at their first practice.  Please return the contract form to coaches ASAP.

Attention CCS Families

This season we are making the traveling to and from sporting events more safe and secure.  Please provide the phone number(s) that you can be reached at on game days for a team list.  Families will then be able to phone each other to arrange rides ahead of time.  This list will be given to all members on respective teams when permission slips are sent home.  It is optional to provide a contact number but it would help families organize transportation for their children.

CCS Basketball Team Practices begin on Monday

Players have been practicing at "player practices" for the past three weeks with Mr. Klaponski.  They have increased their knowledge and skills and demonstrated their commitment to their team.  Coaches are excited to work with their players starting the week of Monday (Nov. 28th).  It is important that players show their commitment by attending practices and practicing on their own at recess and after school.  Team plays and knowledge is provided at practices so it is vital that all players attend.  Be sure to inform your coach, well ahead of time, of your reason for not attending a practice.

Basketball "CCS Player" practices begin Monday Nov. 7th

These practices are new to our basketball program.  This year there will be open practices for students in grade 5,6,7 interested in playing basketball on a CCS team.  The purpose of the practices is to give players skill and endurance training so they are well prepared for the season.  All CCS United Basketball players should make it out to at least 1 CCS PLAYER practice and 2 Shooting Practices each week.  You may attend as many as you like.  Attendance will be taken!  See the practice schedule on the PE/Athletics Blog.

Team practices will begin Nov. 28th.

Permission Forms:
Permission forms will be sent home once all game dates have been confirmed.

Term One Sports Update

Well the soccer and volleyball seasons are officially over now.  Congratulations to all the players and teams.  You have all grown in skill, knowledge and teamwork.  Our Athletic program determines its success on the sports field on these indicators (Playing Hard, Smart and Together).  I am proud of your development this season.  Continue to keep active and stay healthy throughout the year.  The competition was good this year and all the teams have left the season with motivation to keep practicing their skills in the off season.

Grade 7 Volleyball Girls Win OLGC Tournament Oct 14th

Congratulations Girls!  After playing 3 single games against 3 teams CCS was undefeated.  The next match was the gold medal.  Our girls managed to edge their opponents to win the tournament.  All girls received medals and took a picture with the "big trophy."  Those early morning practices seem to be paying off... eh girls? If you all play hard, smart and together in the last two games this week you'll be ready for the playoffs.  Go United!

Parent Basketball Coaches Wanted!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As we enter into the basketball season we are calling on parents that are interested in the sport of Basketball to contact Mr. Klaponski.  mklaponski@ccsunited.ca

If you plan on watching your child play why not sit in the best seat in the gym by becoming a coach?  Teacher sponsors/coaches will be assigned to you and training is available by request.

But if your child is not in grades 5, 6 or 7 then you still might want to coach a team.

Get your School SERVICE HOURS for your volunteering time by reffing or coaching.

Cross Country Season Comes To An End :(

Well... I certainly had a good time training and working with the Cross Country Runners this season.  We attended 2 meets and ran hard, smart and together at both.  In PE the students have been learning about participating at their best (HARD), using game and race strategies (SMART), and playing as a team (TOGETHER).  I think the training paid off.  Some highlights were our two top ten finishes at the CISVA meet (Grade 2... 7th and 9th) and when one of our runners finished a race with only one shoe.  Stay tuned for a cross country assembly as soon as I receive awards.

Thanks to all parents who drove this year and especially to KG for volunteering at the last minute to be a race official at the CISVA.

Did you know that during the CISVA meet the school receives a rank based on points?  But it is the least points that wins!  (First place receives only 1 point)  For us to place as well as we have shown last track season we will need to enter more intermediate students next year because each empty spot of the 6 for each grade costs us 75 points. Wow!

Cross Country Blast

What a day!  CCS students were running hard in the wind and sporadic rain today along the beach at Boundary Bay Park.  The excitement and enthusiasm of the athletes at our school's first meet certainly raised the spirits of the runners and spectators who came out... it also helped take our minds off of the temperature (burrr!).
A good lesson learned was to always come prepared for the weather (jackets, sweatpants, we even had a toque today)  "It sure felt like fall" -anonymous.  We can't wait for the CISVA meet on Tuesday!

Check the school calendar and click on the event and map to get good directions.  There is some parking next to the stadium but also off Boundary Rd or Imperial street... there is a little walk to the stadium from these locations so plan ahead.  CCS sure appreciates all of the parent drivers and when drivers take the time to check the directions on line.  It helps us leave the school in a timely manner and causes less disruption to classes.
Go United!

BBQ at the Boundary Bay Cross Country Meet

I just found out that there will be a BBQ (for participants only) at the meet on Friday.  As the students cross the finish line they will be given a ticket for a hot dog, bag of chips and a chocolate milk.  Yummy!
Grade 2 girls start at 11:30am and alternate boys... girls... up to Grade 7s.  Pray for good weather!

Get updated and Immediate information about CCS Athletics games, meets, events...etc.

Coach __________ (insert coach's name here), is there practice today?  What time does it start?  When do we leave the school for our game?  If you have had any or all of these questions you can get most of them answered just by checking the school calendar or the PE/Athletics Blog. But if you want the latest info emailed directly to you...
...get it by signing up for the PE/Athletics Blog.  Be the first and tell someone about it!
If your child is in Athletics at CCS it will really be helpful to you.

Crescent Park Cross-Country Meet

Please come prepared for the weather on Monday.  Students will leave the school at 11:30am to arrive at the Park with time to stretch and warm-up.  Directions to the park will be available at the school office on Monday.

Rain, Rain, Go away! Come again another day!

With the rain pouring down on me as I road my bike to the school this morning I thought that this would be a good time to remind CCS Athletes that we always try to play our scheduled games... even in a little rain.

Today's Senior Players should come prepared to play in the rain! A decision about the game will be made by lunchtime to give players time to contact family and alert them with the information.

We rarely cancel practices too so always plan to play.  Coaches can often take students into a classroom to talk about game strategy/rules or maybe even watch a demonstration video on a Smart Board.

Cross-Country Training and Permissions

Have you been wondering when Cross-Country Training was happening?  Well this year we decided to have the students in grades 1-7 train for cross-country during their 30 min PE blocks.  All PE students are training at this time too and run a certain number of laps based on their grade level.  The cross-country team runners each try to improve their time by timing themselves and recording their times.  Bring in your Cross-Country permission slips by Thursday at noon to help us prepare for the number of runners attending the meets next week.  We will meet as a team Thursday.

Extra-curricular practices have begun!

Extra-curricular practices for 5-7 girls volleyball and 4-7 boys soccer have begun.  For the Practice Schedule click on "School information" and "Athletics".

PE Strip Compliance

Thanks to all students and their families for coming prepared for PE classes wearing full PE strip.

This month we will be focusing on Soccer (or if you prefer using the name Football) and Volleyball.  Extra-curricular practices for 5-7 girls volleyball and 4-7 boys soccer have also begun.  Click on "Athletics" under "School Information" to find the Practice and Open Gym times.  Open Gym times are for students that would like to be able to practice a certain skill.  Get a game organized by coming with a classmate or more.  Mr. Klaponski will be supervising the gym times and the invitation is open to any responsible students who will use the time effectively.  Let him know ahead of time so he can be prepared to supervise.
Go CCS UNITED!
