The playoffs were cut short for our gr 5 girls yesterday as they fell to a good team from north of the Fraser. Our undefeated season was a highlight of the year in addition to the focused and fun practices. Thanks to the coaches for their commitment.

Strong Fall V-ball Showing
I was privileged to observe the strong play of the grade 5 girls v ball team this week as they took the court for their first game of the season. Many serves were accurate and their positive support of each other on the court helped them win all 6 games. Their hard work training last year and practicing through the summer seems to have paid off.
Also, I am informed that the grade 6 girls worked hard at their away game this week and were successful at the crucial task of making their serves. Good luck to the Seven Girls who play Monday and Friday next week.

CCS Cross Country Sucess
It was a hot, sunny day when the CCS Cross-Country Team went to Cresent Park this past Thursday. We were a group of 81 students (grade 1-7) with a goal of finishing with a smile. I am happy to say that we met our goal and even had 2 boys place first place in the grade 2 and 1 races. A grade 4 boy achieved 3rd place and a grade 5 girl came in 4th. All athletes ran well and demonstrated perseverance right to the end of their races. We all look forward to the Burnaby CISVA Meet on Wednesday, October 3rd.

Permission Slips and Game Schedules
Game schedules and permission slips will go home Friday for most v-ball and soccer teams. Check with your athlete so you can begin arranging rides to games! I suggest getting the phone numbers of the athlete's team members (a team parent could record and distribute this information to other families). This could be accomplished at any practice or after school one day. Just ask classroom teachers for a moment and they will most likely find time for you.
This is also a good time to thank parent drivers for their support of CCS athletics. Your volunteer driving is very helpful to our participation in the CISVA League and our success.

Cross Country Season Grades 1-7
There are two meets in the cross country season this term. I am excited about attending the Star of the Sea Meet Sept 20th as last year the meet was cancelled due to rain. This is the only meet available to the Grade 1s. Also, we will be attending the big CISVA cross country meet at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby. Last year it was a good time by all. See Mr. K or the office for a permission slip.

CCS Mini Track Meet Success
The sun shone down on us on May 2nd when grades 2-4 participated in track and field events. My highlight was the cheering as the gr 2s walked down tot he starting line for the 60m and when a gr 3 lost his shoe but finished his race without it. Priceless! Thanks to all the staff and parents who contributed in grounds and field preparation, concession, organization or sponsoring.
Looking forward to the next one.

Track and Field Driving Heroes
A huge HIP HIP HORRAH for all the families that are driving for our track team this year. Weather it is getting your child to a morning practice, picking another up for after afternoon training or drive two or more to a Track Meet... THANKS for all your support!

Yeah!!! Track and Field has begun
Well, the CCS staff and students are certainly excited with our track and field team this year. We have begun to train at various times during the week but don't let that stop you from exercising on your own. Encourage the students to look for small improvements in their running, throwing and jumping. Today I reminded the team that what they put into the training they see the results of on race day.
On an excited note, we are pleased to be running our own Mini-Track Meet at our school track on Wednesday, May 2nd for grades 2, 3, and 4. There will be up to 5 other schools coming to compete but most of all to have fun in the sun... let us pray eh? Grade 2 students will be training in PE classes for the races (60m, 100m, 800m, long jump and 4x50m). 2 dollars per students... look for handouts that will go out next week.

Basketball Season Results
We are very proud of all our teams and their efforts this season. Most importantly, the players' work allowed them to build their skill, knowledge and teamwork. Players should be proud of the way they practiced and played.
Some highlights include 5 boys winning second place at the Star of the Sea Tournament. Also at the tournament the 5 girls were, by popular choice, the happiest team on the court. Our very own 7s won their own tournament just this last Friday. The combination of the boys' defense and the girls' offensive firepower led to success in the final against OLA. Both the 7 and 6 girls also won the IC tournament. The tough competition at the OLPH tournament led to the 6 boys finishing 4th and the 6 girls finishing 3rd.
The 6 girls finished 2nd in their zone after a nail bitter placement game. Both the 6 boys and 7 girls finished first in their zone and today won their first round games.
Stay tuned for an update on the Vancouver College tournament on the 24th and the 6 girls playoff game next Wednesday vs. QAS.
Good luck in your next playoff game players!
